THE Walled Garden
The Walled Garden dates back to the mid-1700s, when the original garden was created by Richard Woods – a contemporary of Capability Brown. Neglected for the best part of a century, the gardens were brought back to life by celebrated garden designer Penelope Hobhouse.
The celebrated garden designer re-imagined the space into four garden rooms, each with a different purpose. The flower and vegetable gardens produce wonderful floral displays for cricket, the opera & the main house and fruit & produce for the wider estate.
The Green Theatre, with its raised grass stage and yew footlights, hosts a range of summer events from drinks receptions & garden parties to musical performances and recitals. Diagonally opposite, the Croquet Lawn is an ideal location for anything from open air dinners to parties and celebrations under structures and marquees, whilst the central avenues of the garden can play host to banquets and formal dinners with a difference.
The Summer House offers a charming and secluded setting for a small wedding party.
