The Walled Garden

Originally designed in the 18th Century, the Walled Garden is situated in the most sheltered spot on the Estate. In 1985 Penelope Hobhouse together with Simon Johnson were commissioned to rebuild the garden, designing it into quadrants separated in true Chiltern style, by knapped-flint paths and brick with buttressed Yew hedges.

Over the years, it has been meticulously restored and maintained whilst remaining true to the original brief and is a stunning backdrop for any event.

Central Avenues

The Walled Garden is a charmingly unique space in a stunning setting. It is divided by two floral-lined avenues to create four glorious garden rooms: the Green Theatre, Croquet Lawn, Flower Garden, and a Kitchen Garden designated for organically grown fresh fruit and vegetables.

Theatre Garden

The Green Theatre, with its raised grass stage and Yew footlights, hosts a select number of summer events ranging from drinks receptions and garden parties to musical performances and recitals.

Croquet Lawn

Diagonally opposite the Green Theatre is the beautifully manicured Croquet Lawn, an ideal location for open-air dinners, parties and a multitude of celebrations with scope for structures or marquees.

Orchard

Straight through the garden entrance is the beautiful Orchard, a glorious outdoor space lending well to summer soirées to suit any occasion.

This two-acre space is a tranquil escape cherished for its heritage and natural beauty. Wherever one may wander, hidden treasures can be found, from the rose garden to little secret gardens, statues and a shaded thatched summer house.

Overlooked by the Walled Garden and Orchard, The Vista is positioned in the most picturesque setting.

Whatever the event or celebration, the Walled Garden will only serve to bring wonder and delight to any privileged guests.
