Wormsley Cricket Women’s Week

On International Women’s Day we are delighted to announce that Wormsley Cricket will be hosting a week celebrating women in cricket from the 16th to the 21st of August 2022.

The aim of this inaugural ‘Wormsley Women in Cricket Festival’ is to inspire women and girls to both play and explore a new pathway to professional attainment within the sport as players, coaches and officials through a mixture of hard and soft ball events, coaching and training sessions, and showcase fixtures.  It is also an opportunity for players to experience the exceptional Wormsley cricket ground as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations.

The week begins with an Oxfordshire CCC Women’s Showcase day on Tuesday 16th August.

On Wednesday 17th August we will host a free ECB Support Coach course designed to give female participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches and enhance player experience for Girls’ and Women’s Cricket.

Alongside this we will be running a Dynamos coaching morning, which will provide a fantastic next step for all those graduating from All Stars Cricket and the perfect introduction for all 8-11 year olds new to the sport.  During the afternoon we will host a Women’s showcase game and the day will close with a fun soft ball festival as an introduction to cricket, for women who may be looking for a new way to improve their fitness and learn a new skill.

Tuesday 18th August is dedicated to the Under 18s girls’ clubs with a special T20 Festival, whilst on Friday 19th August the Sir Paul Getty Women’s XI host UKAFACA Women.

On Saturday 20th August the Sir Paul Getty Women’s XI will play a showcase game against the FairBreak International XI.  This game will be the third time this world-famous side, made up of leading female cricketers from around the cricketing world, will have played at Wormsley.

The week concludes on Sunday 21st August with a further fixture for the FairBreak XI against an international opposition.

The week-long celebration of women in cricket is being organised by Wormsley, Helen Pack, Chair of Women’s Cricket at Wormsley, and Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Cricket Boards.

In addition to a great week of sport, the event is attracting support and participation from mentors, coaches and speakers, all with the aim of inspiring women to #breakthebias.  Spectators and supporters are welcome to come along and enjoy the ‘Wormsley Women in Cricket Festival’.

Film and Photography at Wormsley

Wormsley is available this year as a film, TV and photography location. Wormsley made its most recent appearance in Mothering Sunday, released November 2021.  Mothering Sunday is a British romantic drama set just after World War I starring Olivia Colman, Colin Firth, Odessa Young and Josh O'Connor.  The film was directed by Eva Husson from a screenplay by Alice Birch, based on the novel of the same title by Graham Swift.  The filming took place in Dean Wood.  Wormsley has also appeared in a recent marvellous major movie (we're bound to secrecy so can only tease you with this).

Wormsley has provided the backdrop for many big-budget films and a variety of TV productions, including the Big Bomb field in Nanny McPhee and Midsummer Murders, where our famous Cricket Ground took centre stage in Last Man Out and Secrets and Spies. We've also had a 'corpse' in our garage as well as several in ditches, woodlands and assorted ‘car crash’ sites around the Estate!

Wormsley is an ideal location for filming with its diversity of buildings, historic and contemporary; open spaces; landscapes, and locations.  Quiet and unspoiled Wormsley's private roads are perfect for capturing driving footage and our skyline is clear of obstructions.  Our beautiful spaces and hidden places also provide stunning backdrops to showcase high-end brand photography. There are many surprising elements to discover hidden around the estate.

If you're interested in filming or photography at Wormsley, send us a message or give us a call on +44 (0) 1494 484443.

A Fantastic Festival of Cricket

Watch the video below for a taste of the day!

Wormsley, world-renowned as one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world, played host to a number of cricketing icons on Friday 30 July for a day of food, drink, entertainment, and, most importantly, cricket.

A celebration of the players, the day kicked off with a T20 fixture between our friends from both the Barmy Army and the cricket media.

Following this, on-field entertainment ran alongside net sessions with past and present players and there were opportunities for individuals to get involved with a number of activities on the outfield.

In the afternoon, the day cumulated in a showcase T20 fixture between the PCA England Masters, including the likes of Graeme Swann, Mark Ramprakash, and Jonathan Trott, and an equally star-studded Sir Paul Getty XI.

Money raised from tickets went towards the Professional Cricketers’ Trust in order to support PCA members and their immediate families when they need it most.

The Trust offers life-changing – and often life-saving – support to past and present professional cricketers in their times of need. Since 2015, the players’ charity has supported 426 individuals in the area of mental health alone.

Sir Captain Tom Moore’s legacy lives on

The Lord’s Taverners XI vs The Captain Tom Foundation XI match at Wormsley on Wednesday 18 August has been POSTPONED

Whilst the pandemic restrictions are starting to ease, we are still living and working in the shadow of Covid, and dealing with the uncertainty that this brings. In light of this, The Lord’s Taverners and the Captain Tom Foundation have made the difficult decision to postpone this showcase Cricket Fundraising event this year and will now work towards staging this day in more settled times in Summer 2022.

Wormsley looks forward to welcoming the Charities in 2022, and to what will be a fabulous celebration.

Join stars from the world of sport and entertainment for a day of celebrity cricket raising funds for the Lord’s Taverners and The Captain Tom Foundation.

To help ensure Captain Tom Moore’s legacy lives on, the Lord’s Taverners XI and The Captain Tom Foundation XI will commemorate his amazing achievements with a 100-ball cricket match at the prestigious Wormsley Cricket Ground, date TBC.

The game will feature celebrities and a host of former international sports stars as part of the nationwide Captain Tom 100 initiative to celebrate his life. Joining us for the day so far are David Gower, Rob Andrew, Mike Gatting, Andy Caddick, Paul Prichard, Adam Ball, Jason Dodd, Matt Floyd, and Phil Spencer with more to be announced.

There will be food, drink, and entertainment for all the family to enjoy in the magnificent surroundings of one of the most beautiful grounds in England. As part of this, you'll have the chance to test your own cricket skills in our BatFast cricket simulator which will be available throughout the day.

Tickets are just £25 (plus 50p per ticket booking fee), or £1 for under 16s and you can book via the link below.

Funds raised on the day will be split between the Lord's Taverners and The Captain Tom Foundation.

About Wormsley Cricket

The Cricket ground at Wormsley was officially opened on Sunday 24th May 1992 by Bob Wyatt (England Captain – 40 caps) who rang the Wormsley Bell aside  Fred Trueman (67 England caps) who raised the Wormsley Flag. The Sir Paul Getty XI played host to the MCC, watched by Her Majesty The Queen Mother and the then Prime Minister, Sir John Major. To this day, the Sir Paul Getty Men’s and Women’s XIs continue to be a cornerstone of cricket at Wormsley with annual matches against the MCC, the UK Armed Forces, Eton Ramblers, the Arabs and I Zingari - teams steeped in history & tradition and close to the heart of Sir Paul's original vision for Wormsley Cricket. Befitting Wormsley’s worldwide reputation as ‘one of the most beautiful grounds in England’, the number and variety of matches has increased in recent years - with the addition of a limited number of corporate & charity cricket days, private games and representative matches (such as the Women’s Varsity Match, the National Counties and Oxfordshire Cricket Finals) alongside cricket days for the villages that surround the Estate.

Wormsley Cricket Membership

Cricket Membership at Wormsley allows our most loyal friends to enjoy a wide variety of cricket, including access to private games, charity matches and ticketed days, from a designated Members area with refreshment facilities and free parking.

About Wormsley

Wormsley is a beautiful private estate, first mentioned in official records in 1106, and since 1547 has been home to only two families; the Scropes/Fanes, and the Gettys since 1985. Perfectly situated in the rolling countryside of Buckinghamshire, this hidden jewel is but a stone’s throw from Jct 5 M40, between Stokenchurch and Ibstone. Primarily a private family home, for a limited number of days each year, the Estate is available for private individuals and organisations to hold events such as meetings, conferences, private dining experiences, festivals, corporate days, family days, cricket and country sports days, private parties and weddings. The beauty of the landscape, its traditional Chiltern buildings, roads, gardens & woodlands, also make the Estate an excellent location for commercial TV & Film production.
